My major theoretical approach to research and clinical work is the integration of attachment theory and object relational theories incorporating the work in reflective functioning as it is applied to attachment phenomena. I am also engaged in the investigation of the complexity of the therapy process, issues related to supervision and cultural factors that influence the development of the therapeutic alliance as they impact the outcome of psychotherapy. My research team, composed of a small group of doctoral students, discusses research projects focused on mindfulness, reflective functioning and attachment and their relationship to a range of psychological phenomena. I plan to enlarge the subject matter of my research to include the inclusion of Interpersonal Neurobiology into research projects. Together with another faculty member, I lead a bi-weekly research group in the discussion of clinical training in psychotherapy and the impact of cultural biases in conducting psychotherapy.
